Yankee Dreams
"I first came to Boston in the mid-1960's... Those were the days of Don Stover, and the Lilly Brothers at the old Hillbilly Ranch on Washington Street, where I used to hang out and play the occasional tune; and the last of the old style Down East dances on Dudley Street. In the early 1970s I was teaching in New England, and did a lot of playing with the French-Acadian fiddlers Gerry Robichaud, Tommy Doucet, Joe Cormier and Jerry Holland." Frank Ferrel Ferrel has six albums to his credit. This (his fourth), features support from piano player Peter Barnes and guitarist/mandolinist John McGann (mainstays of the New England folk music scene) on a generous selection of tunes from the great Cape Breton fiddlers Dan R. MacDonald, Winston "Scottie" Fitzgerald and Angus Chisolm, along with tunes from Irish, Scottish and the Shetland Isand tradition, as well as Ferrel's originals.
