Pride & Prejudice Volume IV FAIN 020
Pride & Prejudice Volume IV
In the Fourth Volume in the Pride and Prejudice Collection we have brought together a selection of beautiful tunes and dances from 18th and 19th Century, the majority being from the period 1790 to 1815.

One of our dance Interpreters, Reg Battle, was lucky enough to be given a hitherto un-interpreted book of dances published in 1815; and we have included three of those dances.
We are pleased to introduce to you a new dance Interpreter, Peter Hoffmann from Germany, who brings us dances from collections published during the period of Jane Austen’s working life.

As in the previous Volumes, David Fleming-Williams has mostly used the tunes as they were originally printed for each dance, arranging them in a style which is just as easy to listen to as dance.
In the same manner, Reg Battle and Peter Hoffmann have re-interpreted some of the dances, trying to get back more closely to ‘how it might have been’, bearing in mind the expectations of today's dancers.

You can listen to the music on the CD but also, if you have a computer, you can access both the Dance Notations and the Music Notations.

The Pride and Prejudice Collection - Volume 1 FAIN 007
The Pride and Prejudice Collection - Volume 1
The Pemberley Players are a group of musicians with particular experience of playing music published in the 17th & 18th centuries who have been brought together by David Fleming-Williams. They are: Stephen Fellowes (Flute), David Fleming-Williams (Violin), Jeanne Mann (Violin), Jonathan Cohen (Piano), Isobel Walsby (Cello).
The dances in this collection have been chosen from two periods in the history of English Country Dance. In the last of the 17th century John and Henry Playford owned a 'shop in the Inner Temple neere the Church doore' from where they published many editions of 'The Dancing Master'. The first edition in 1650 contained 105 country dances and the final 1728 edition, published well after John's death, contained 358!
During the late 18th century the publishers Charles and Samuel Thompson of St. Paul's Churchyard issued every year a collection of twenty four dances 'as they are performed at Court, Bath and all Publick Assemblys.
This brand new recording draw's it's inspiration from the "New Country Dances" integral to the social life of the Regency Period, so successfully popularised by the recent television and film versions of the novels of Jane Austen.

The Pride and Prejudice Collection - Volume 2 FAIN 012
The Pride and Prejudice Collection - Volume 2
This Second Volume in the Pride and Prejudice Collection contains more of the Jane Austen film and TV dances. In the earliest stages of planning it became clear that little had been done to interpret the dances from the "Apted" Collection to their original tunes.
Referring to the original book, Reg Battle set about the task of interpretation, bearing in mind the dialogue between 17th to 19th Century dance techniques and current expectations. This will undoubtedly give a new look to some of the more familiar dances from this Collection.
This is a Multi-Media CD - so if you have a computer you can see and print the dance notations. Also included are the original notations and interesting 'tit-bits', such as how the dance was performed i in the TV or film production.
